Artist Statement:

Taking a different approach from my typical style, it was a delight to play with thread in this detailed imagery.  Nightmarish to behold, but this collection of beetles is indisputably beautiful.  Using photos taken at a local insect museum and free motion stitching, I painstakingly recreated thread versions of a few wonderful specimens.  The final addition of the life-like ladybug on the free motion stitched, stylized fern fronds added some whimsy and finished it all off!
